Winter brings shorter days and cooler, drier air - perfect for diving into braids, but what about your hair? Doesn't it need extra care and comfort? Because there's less moisture in the air, your hair can dry out more easily, so it definitely needs a dose of extra tender care. Here are our top five tips for changing up your routine.

Hide the straighteners

Okay, we know that for some of you, this is a big deal, so please (!) use your Daily Damage Defence every time you straighten to protect and condition your hair. Heated styling tools cause damage no matter the season, but in the winter, your hair can be more vulnerable to split ends and breakage. Why not step things up a notch by blow-drying your hair before braiding it overnight for super chic chin-length waves when you wake up? Totally straight hair can look harsh, so this soft look gets our vote for the colder months. Avoid frizz and smooth flyaways while nourishing your hair with the Finishing Touch Polishing Serum and you’ll be done.

If you wear a hat, choose a cashmere and/or silk lining.

Sounds expensive, right? But think about how many times you might be taking a hat off and on, combined with the cold outside and the central heating inside, so the amount of wear and tear this causes can be expensive. Our Trichologists liken hair to cashmere, you wouldn’t drag a bristle hairbrush across your favourite cashmere sweater as it will break and sever the fibres. You should also be careful about the fabric softener you use and make sure to hand wash. A warm cashmere hat is ideal for protecting your hair from changing temperatures and the silk lining can help reduce static while smoothing the hair cuticle instead of stiffening it.

Take time for a weekly deep care

Elasticizer is like a blanket for your hair, so don’t just put a thin layer on your hair, put a lot on. Trust us, you always need more than you think, thirsty hair will drink it up, so if the treatment doesn’t stay white when you wear it, your hair has already soaked it all up! Our legendary hair mask is packed with hydrating oils, and if you wrap a warm towel around your hair while it works, it will feel like a wonderful hug for your hair.
